Hello & Welcome to our February PM Splash News! The reason we are reaching out is to keep you educated on things to look out for with your new pool or hot tub, to see what’s new with us, and to show you some things that we’ve been working on. Hope you enjoy!
Seasonal Stores Opening
While most of you don’t consider February “Opening Season”, it’s certainly opening season for Pool Mart in Lockport and Tonawanda! Both locations reopen February 13th, where we’ll be stocked up with spa chemicals, pool opening supplies, spas, patio furniture and pre-season pool packages. We’ll also be running our President’s Day Sale, the first big sale of the New Year! If you want to plan ahead and get a pool installed once the weather breaks or if your Valentine has their eye on a new spa or furniture set for the back patio, we’ll be running some great specials for savvy pre-season shoppers.

What’s New
Is your patio furniture due for an upgrade or do you have a new outdoor space you’d like to decorate? Like Pool Mart, Telescope Casual Furniture is a family-owned business. We just passed our 49th anniversary and Telescope has been around since 1903! This year, they’ve released a number of new special order furniture lines. Welles Cushion is a deep cushion seating group with Marine Grade Polymer (MGP) with rustic wood accents inspired by Telescope’s 1966 “Vinyl Floral Cushion Group”. They’ve also added a rectangular Firepit Table and Balcony Height Swivel to their popular Belle Isle Sling collection along with a new Stacking Armless Cafe Chair and 48”x96” MGP Top Table to their popular Kendell Sling line. If you want to special order a collection and customize your frame and fabrics, now is the time to plan ahead.
Pool Help
Two of the most common questions we get during pool opening season are “When should I replace my Simple Clean cartridge” and “How often should I change my filter sand?”, and this month we’re going to answer both. While mileage varies depending on your back yard, it’s a good idea to replace your Simple Clean cartridge every three seasons. Some people also buy a second filter (so that they always have a dry, clean filter on deck), and you may be able to get four years out of each if you follow this method.
Either way, it’s a good idea to give your filter a deep clean at the beginning or end of each season with FC-5 filter spray. It’s a cleaner, more environmentally friendly way to clean your filter compared to the waste and physical space needed using Muriatic acid.
When it comes to sand filters, you should replace the sand every season. Filter sand starts off as very course and sharp so it can catch debris as the water is traveling through the filter. With thousands of gallons of water going through the filter continuously, by the end of a season it gets to be smooth, like beach glass. If you’ve been fighting water clarity for awhile and you can’t remember the last time you changed your sand out, that’s definitely part of the problem. So while none of us are ready to open our pools yet, start off on the right foot this spring by changing out your filter sand.
Hot Tub Help
Our customers often ask us “How long is my hot tub cover good for?” and the short answer is: about five years. If you think about it, your spa cover is continuously soaking up condensation from the water inside. Once your hot tub cover starts to get heavy, it’s best to order a new one. We can order Hot Spring Spas covers direct from the manufacturer with the exact measurements designed for your hot tub and we can also order aftermarket covers for most brands in a variety of foam densities, colors, custom drapes and tapers with an in-store order form. If you like, we can also deliver and attach the cover to your existing spa for $199.
